Diving Tutakaka – The Poor Knights Islands

Today my dad and I took a boat trip out to scuba dive the Poor Knights Islands that are 23km off of the Northwest Coast of New Zealand. The Poor Knights Islands are known as “the best sub-tropical diving in the WORLD”. The water temperatures are warmer and visibility is clearer than anywhere else in NZ. The islands have volcanic origins that provide many spectacular underwater drop-offs, walls, caves, arches and tunnels. “A dive at the Poor Knights Islands is a once-in-a-life-time experience”.

Our first dive was in Rikorio Cave, the largest sea cave in the world. We dove to the bottom of the cave, which was at a depth of about 24 meters or 70 feet.

Our second dive was off of Trevor’s Rock at a depth of about 21 meters or 63 feet. On this dive we saw 2 stingrays and many large fish. I will have to agree that the diving at Poor Knights Islands was an underwater experience never to be missed. The dive guides and boat crew were all great people and we had an amazing dive trip!! I would do it again anytime.
THANK YOU, Dive Tutakaka!!
